I just got the rules from Rich. Thanks Rich, and have been reading over them a bit, and have a few more questions about weapons ranges:
What is the generic definition of effective range, e.g. less than short range, one-quarter of max range, one-third of max range, etc.?
How do you break it up into the various range lengths, when in some cases no maximum range is listed, and for others the ranges seem to be quite short?
Perhaps some sort of ranged weapon table would be helpful. I know I could use one to make grasping the various ranges and To-Hit modifiers a bit easier.
The values for 25mm/28mm figs seem to be pretty clear for bows and guns (e.g. multiplying by the various stick lengths, etc.), but less so to me for some of the shorter ranged weapons, e.g. blowguns, shurikens, tanto, and Yari-Nagi, etc.
For example, the max blowgun range is 9", so is effective/short range 3", or more (4.5" or 6" perhaps). Is there really no long range for this weapon, and 6 - 9" is medium range?
Is there only a short range for this weapon?
A clarification would be appreciated for the blowgun (Fukiya), and the Yari-Nagi (thrown spear), which have the same max ranges(9"), e.g. specific distances for effective, short, medium, and long ranges, if applicable.
The Shuriken and Tanto (when thrown) seem to fit the standard 2x, 3x, 4x range format, like the bows, e.g. 6" is effective range, 6 - 9" = short range, 9 - 12" = medium range, and 12" + long range.
Not sure how to rate the Kusarigama and the Kyoketsu-shoge though - max range of 6", but what are the effective/short ranges, and other ranges, if any are applicable?
Is it just considered to be an effective/short-ranged weapon, with no Medium/Long range modifiers?
Any enlightenment you can shed on the subject will be greatly appreciated.
